Publication Ethics

JTL: Journal of Teaching and Learning adheres to the highest ethical standards in publishing. We are committed to ensuring the integrity, quality, and transparency of the research we publish. Our publication ethics are based on the principles of honesty, responsibility, transparency, and respect for the work of others.

We expect all parties involved in the publication process—authors, reviewers, and editors—to follow the guidelines below:

1. Responsibilities of Authors

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is original and has not been published elsewhere. Proper citation of sources is required for any material that has been reproduced or adapted from other works. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is unacceptable.
  • Authorship: Authors should be individuals who have significantly contributed to the research and writing of the manuscript. All authors must be listed, and all contributions should be disclosed. Authors should ensure that they have permission from all co-authors before submitting the manuscript.
  • Data Integrity: Authors must ensure that the data presented in the manuscript are accurate, authentic, and reliable. Falsification or manipulation of data is strictly prohibited.
  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation. This includes financial, personal, or professional conflicts.
  • Human and Animal Rights: Authors must ensure that their research involving human participants or animals complies with relevant ethical standards. Informed consent and approval from relevant ethics committees must be obtained where applicable.

2. Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat the manuscripts they review as confidential documents. Manuscripts should not be shared or discussed with others without permission.
  • Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively, and reviewers should provide constructive feedback. Personal criticism of the author is not acceptable.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their reviews within the specified time frame. If they are unable to meet the deadline, they should inform the editor as soon as possible.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect their impartiality in reviewing the manuscript.

3. Responsibilities of Editors

  • Fair and Impartial Decision Making: Editors are responsible for making decisions about the publication of manuscripts based on the quality of the research, its relevance to the journal’s scope, and the validity of the findings. Editors must act impartially and fairly in handling manuscripts.
  • Confidentiality: Editors must ensure that all manuscripts and their contents are kept confidential during the review and publication process.
  • Transparency and Accountability: Editors should be transparent about the editorial processes and decisions made regarding the publication of an article. Editors must ensure that all research is properly attributed and that proper ethical standards are followed.
  • Handling Conflicts of Interest: Editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest regarding the manuscripts they handle. If necessary, an editorial board member or associate editor will step in to ensure the impartiality of the decision-making process.
  • Correction and Retraction: If errors are found after publication, editors should work to correct or retract the article in a timely manner to maintain the integrity of the scientific record.

4. Ethical Oversight

JTL: Journal of Teaching and Learning is committed to maintaining ethical publishing practices. We follow the guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and adhere to international standards in publishing. Any alleged ethical violations, including plagiarism, data fabrication, or other misconduct, will be investigated thoroughly.
