Screening for Plagiarism

Screening for Plagiarism

MUNIF: International Journal of Religion Moderation is firmly committed to upholding the integrity and originality of all published works. To maintain high academic standards and ensure the credibility of its publications, MUNIF implements a strict plagiarism screening policy for all submitted manuscripts.

Plagiarism Detection Process

  1. Initial Screening
Every manuscript submitted to MUNIF undergoes an initial plagiarism check using Turnitin or equivalent plagiarism detection software before the peer review process begins.

  2. Similarity Threshold

    • Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20% or below (excluding references and quotations) are eligible for further processing.

    • Manuscripts exceeding 20% similarity will be returned to the authors for revision and resubmission.

    • In cases where the similarity index is above 40%, the manuscript will be automatically rejected without the possibility of resubmission.

  3. Types of Plagiarism Considered
MUNIF treats the following practices as forms of plagiarism and academic misconduct:

    • Direct Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim without proper citation.

    • Mosaic Plagiarism: Using phrases or sentences from a source without quotation marks, even when cited.

    • Self-Plagiarism: Republishing one’s own previously published work without proper acknowledgment.

    • Paraphrasing without Attribution: Restating ideas from another work without citing the original source.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

  • Authors are required to ensure that all submitted manuscripts are entirely original and properly cite any sources or materials referenced.

  • If any third-party content (e.g., figures, tables, or long quotations) is used, authors must obtain the necessary permissions and provide proper attribution.

  • Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is strictly prohibited.

Consequences of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected at any stage—before, during, or after publication—the following actions will be taken:

  • Before Publication: The manuscript will be returned to the author for revision or rejected outright.

  • After Publication: The article may be retracted, and a formal notice will be issued in the journal.

  • Severe Cases: The author’s affiliated institution may be informed, and future submissions from the author may be restricted.

Adherence to COPE Guidelines

This policy fully complies with the ethical standards set by the
Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows internationally accepted practices to maintain academic honesty and publication integrity.
