Authorship Criteria

MPI: Jurnal Manajemen, Pendidikan dan Pemikiran Islam is committed to upholding the principles of academic integrity, transparency, fairness, and accountability in scholarly publishing. The journal expects all authors to comply with recognized standards of responsible authorship and contributorship, including the guidance provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).

1. Criteria for Authorship

An individual may be listed as an author of a manuscript submitted to JMPI only if they have made a substantial scholarly contribution to the research and satisfy all the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: Contributed significantly to the conception or design of the research, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or development of the theoretical framework and scholarly arguments.

  2. Writing and Critical Revision: Participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.

  4. Accountability: Agreed to be accountable for their contributions and to cooperate in ensuring that questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the research are appropriately addressed.

These criteria are based on the authorship recommendations of the ICMJE and are applied to JMPI's interdisciplinary fields, including management, education, Islamic studies, law, economics, philosophy, and theology.

All individuals designated as authors must meet all four criteria. Contributors who meet the first criterion must be given an appropriate opportunity to participate in manuscript drafting or critical revision and final approval before authorship decisions are finalized.

2. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the editorial office throughout submission, peer review, and publication. The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.

  • Confirming that all authors have approved the final manuscript and consented to its submission to JMPI.

  • Providing accurate author names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and other required metadata.

  • Ensuring appropriate disclosure of funding, conflicts of interest, research ethics approvals, and other relevant declarations.

  • Coordinating responses to editorial queries and ensuring that all authors are informed of important editorial decisions.

  • Facilitating communication among co-authors when corrections, authorship changes, or post-publication concerns arise.

3. Author Order and Changes in Authorship

The order of authors must be determined collectively by the authors based on their respective contributions and mutual agreement before submission.

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must include a clear written explanation and documented agreement from all affected authors, including any author being added or removed. Such requests are subject to editorial review and approval.

JMPI follows the principles of transparency and fairness outlined in the relevant COPE guidance on authorship and contributorship. Authorship disputes should be addressed through appropriate institutional procedures where necessary. The journal may suspend processing of a manuscript while a substantial authorship dispute remains unresolved.

4. Contributors Who Do Not Qualify for Authorship

Individuals who contribute to a manuscript but do not satisfy all the authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Their contributions may instead be acknowledged in an Acknowledgments section, subject to their consent.

Examples include individuals who provide administrative assistance, routine technical support, language editing, proofreading, or general supervision without making a qualifying intellectual contribution.

JMPI encourages authors to describe individual research contributions using the CRediT Contributor Roles Taxonomy, where appropriate. The taxonomy provides standardized descriptions of research roles, including conceptualization, methodology, investigation, formal analysis, data curation, writing, and supervision. Use of CRediT does not replace the journal's authorship criteria.

5. Unethical Authorship Practices

JMPI does not accept guest authorship, honorary authorship, gift authorship, or ghost authorship.

  • Guest or honorary authorship: Listing an individual who has not made a qualifying contribution to the research.

  • Gift authorship: Including an individual as an author as a favor, courtesy, or reciprocal arrangement without a qualifying contribution.

  • Ghost authorship: Omitting an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the research or manuscript without appropriate acknowledgment or disclosure.

All authors must ensure that the author list accurately reflects the scholarly contributions made to the manuscript. Suspected authorship misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant COPE resources.

6. Use of Artificial Intelligence in Authorship

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems and large language models, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility or accountability for scholarly work.

Authors who use AI tools in substantive ways to prepare manuscripts, generate images or graphical elements, collect or analyze data, or otherwise contribute to the research must disclose the tool used, its purpose, and the nature of its contribution in accordance with JMPI's Generative AI Policy.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and proper attribution of all manuscript content, including AI-assisted material. They must independently verify factual claims, data, quotations, and references and ensure compliance with applicable copyright and research ethics requirements.

This policy is consistent with the COPE position statement on authorship and AI tools and the ICMJE recommendations on AI-assisted technologies.

7. Declaration of Authorship

By submitting a manuscript to JMPI, the corresponding author confirms, on behalf of all co-authors, that:

  1. The authorship information accurately reflects the contributions made to the work.

  2. All listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.

  3. All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted version.

  4. All authors agree to the submission and confirm that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

  5. Relevant funding sources, conflicts of interest, research ethics considerations, and substantive AI use have been disclosed as required.

  6. All authors accept responsibility for the integrity of the research and agree to cooperate with the journal in resolving any questions concerning the work.

JMPI reserves the right to request additional information or documentation when necessary to verify authorship, contributorship, or compliance with publication ethics requirements.
