Generative AI Policy

1. Policy Statement

JMPI: Jurnal Manajemen, Pendidikan dan Pemikiran Islam recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can support academic writing, language editing, and research activities. However, their use must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with academic integrity. This policy establishes the responsibilities of authors, editors, and reviewers in using generative AI tools during manuscript preparation, peer review, and editorial decision-making.

2. Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use generative AI tools to assist with language improvement, grammar correction, translation, organization of ideas, and other appropriate writing-support activities. However, AI tools must not replace the authors' intellectual contributions, critical judgment, or responsibility for the accuracy and originality of their research.

Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to JMPI, including factual claims, data, analysis, interpretations, citations, and references. Any AI-generated information must be carefully verified before submission. Authors must not use AI tools to fabricate data, invent references, manipulate research findings, or misrepresent the originality of their work.

3. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools when such tools have contributed substantively to manuscript preparation, content generation, data analysis, or other research activities, in accordance with the journal's requirements. The disclosure should identify the tool used, describe its purpose, and indicate the relevant activities for which it was employed.

AI tools used solely for basic spelling, grammar correction, or routine language editing may be treated differently, depending on the nature of the use and the journal's applicable requirements. Authors should provide transparent disclosure whenever the use of AI could materially affect the content or interpretation of the manuscript.

A disclosure statement may be included in a dedicated section of the manuscript, such as an AI Use Disclosure or Acknowledgments section, as appropriate.

4. AI Authorship

Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JMPI. Authorship requires human accountability, intellectual contribution, and the ability to take responsibility for the integrity of scholarly work. Authors must ensure that all listed authors meet appropriate authorship criteria and approve the final manuscript.

5. Use of AI by Editors and Reviewers

Editors and reviewers must exercise professional judgment and maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial and peer-review process. They must not upload unpublished manuscripts, confidential reviewer reports, personal information, or other confidential editorial materials to public or third-party AI tools without appropriate authorization and safeguards.

AI tools must not replace independent editorial judgment or the critical assessment required during peer review. Editors and reviewers remain responsible for their recommendations, decisions, and any information generated with AI assistance.

6. Research Integrity and Prohibited Practices

The use of generative AI to fabricate or falsify data, generate misleading evidence, create false citations, conceal plagiarism, or misrepresent research methods is prohibited. Authors must also respect applicable copyright, privacy, confidentiality, and research ethics requirements when using AI tools. Suspected misuse may lead to requests for clarification, manuscript revision, rejection, or further action under the journal's publication ethics procedures.

7. Editorial Assessment and Compliance

JMPI may assess disclosed or suspected AI use when necessary to determine compliance with this policy and the journal's publication ethics standards. Authors may be asked to explain how AI tools were used and to verify the accuracy and originality of relevant content. Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript's scholarly quality, integrity, transparency, and compliance with journal requirements.

8. Ethical Guidelines

This policy is informed by recognized scholarly publishing ethics resources, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and its position statement on AI tools. JMPI may review and update this policy as generative AI technologies, research practices, and publication ethics standards evolve.

Through this policy, JMPI aims to encourage responsible innovation while safeguarding human accountability, research integrity, confidentiality, and trust in scholarly communication.
