Post-Publication Discussion
JMPI: Jurnal Manajemen, Pendidikan dan Pemikiran Islam recognizes that scholarly communication continues after an article has been published. The journal encourages constructive academic discussion, critical evaluation, and the responsible exchange of ideas to improve the quality, reliability, and impact of published research.
In accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and established standards of scholarly publishing, JMPI provides a mechanism for readers, researchers, authors, and other members of the academic community to raise substantive questions, provide scholarly comments, and report concerns regarding articles published in the journal.
1. Scope of Post-Publication Discussion
Post-publication discussion may address the following matters:
-
Theoretical arguments, conceptual frameworks, or interpretations presented in a published article.
-
Research methodology, data analysis, interpretation of findings, or the validity of conclusions.
-
Relevant literature, overlooked evidence, or alternative explanations that may contribute to scholarly understanding.
-
Errors, inconsistencies, or omissions that may affect the interpretation or reliability of the published work.
-
Potential concerns regarding research integrity, publication ethics, authorship, plagiarism, data integrity, or undisclosed conflicts of interest.
All comments and communications must be academically relevant, evidence-based, respectful, and consistent with professional standards of scholarly conduct.
2. Submission of Post-Publication Comments
Readers and researchers who wish to comment on a published article may contact the JMPI editorial office through the contact information provided on the official journal website.
A submission should include:
-
The title, author names, DOI, or URL of the published article concerned.
-
A clear explanation of the issue, question, or scholarly argument being raised.
-
Supporting evidence, relevant references, data, or documentation where appropriate.
-
The name and institutional affiliation of the contributor, together with contact information for editorial correspondence.
Comments should focus on the scholarly content of the article rather than the personal characteristics or motivations of its authors. The journal may request revisions or additional information before considering a comment for publication.
3. Editorial Assessment
All post-publication comments are subject to editorial assessment. The editor will evaluate their relevance, scholarly merit, factual basis, clarity, and compliance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
Comments that contribute meaningfully to academic discussion may be considered for publication as letters to the editor, scholarly comments, responses, or other appropriate formats supported by the journal.
The journal may decline comments that are unsupported, defamatory, abusive, irrelevant, repetitive, or inconsistent with academic publishing standards.
Acceptance of a comment is not guaranteed, and editorial decisions will be made independently and fairly.
4. Right of Response
When a post-publication comment raises substantive questions about a published article, JMPI may invite the original author or authors to provide a response.
The original authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to address the issues raised and clarify their methodology, evidence, interpretation, or conclusions.
Where appropriate, the comment and the authors' response may be published together or linked to the original article to support transparent scholarly discussion.
The absence of a response will not automatically be interpreted as agreement with the comment or evidence of misconduct.
5. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions
Post-publication discussion may identify errors or concerns that require formal editorial action. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue, JMPI may consider:
-
Correction: When a limited error or omission needs to be corrected without invalidating the overall reliability of the article.
-
Expression of Concern: When significant questions about the reliability or integrity of a published article remain unresolved while further investigation is undertaken.
-
Retraction: When the available evidence establishes that the article is unreliable or that serious publication ethics violations warrant retraction.
Such actions will be considered in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidance on corrections and retractions.
The journal will aim to preserve the scholarly record and provide transparent links between the original article and any subsequent correction, response, expression of concern, or retraction.
6. Research Misconduct and Ethical Concerns
Comments that raise credible concerns about research misconduct, including fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, manipulated data, or other serious ethical violations, will be handled through the journal's policy on Allegations of Research Misconduct.
Where necessary, JMPI may request additional documentation, consult independent experts, or refer the matter to the relevant research institution, research integrity office, or other competent authority.
The journal will distinguish between legitimate scholarly disagreement, honest error, and potential misconduct. Allegations will not be treated as established facts without appropriate assessment of the available evidence.
7. Fairness, Confidentiality, and Professional Conduct
JMPI is committed to ensuring that post-publication discussions are handled fairly, impartially, and respectfully.
The journal will protect confidential information where reasonably possible and will limit access to sensitive communications to individuals who need it for legitimate editorial purposes.
All contributors are expected to avoid personal attacks, harassment, discriminatory language, and unsupported allegations. The journal may edit or decline material that violates these standards.
Where a potential conflict of interest is identified, the journal will take appropriate steps to maintain the independence and impartiality of the editorial process.
8. Publication and Accessibility
Where a post-publication comment or response is accepted, JMPI may publish it as a separate scholarly item or associate it with the relevant article, depending on the journal's publication workflow and technical capabilities.
The journal will provide appropriate bibliographic information and links to the original article and related publications to facilitate discovery, citation, and scholarly discussion.
Any formal correction, expression of concern, or retraction will be clearly identified and linked to the affected article in accordance with the journal's applicable policies.
9. Commitment to Continuing Scholarly Dialogue
JMPI considers post-publication discussion an important component of academic accountability and the continuous development of knowledge. The journal encourages evidence-based debate, constructive criticism, and responsible responses that contribute to research quality and intellectual progress.
By facilitating post-publication discussion, JMPI seeks to strengthen transparency, preserve the integrity of the scholarly record, and foster an open and respectful academic community.
