Plagiarism Screening
1. Originality of Manuscripts
JMPI: Jurnal Manajemen, Pendidikan dan Pemikiran Islam is committed to maintaining academic integrity and originality in scholarly publishing. All submitted manuscripts must represent original work, appropriately acknowledge the contributions of other researchers, and provide accurate citations and references for all sources used. Plagiarism, including the use of another person's ideas, words, data, figures, or research findings without proper attribution, is strictly prohibited.
2. Similarity Checking
All manuscripts submitted to JMPI are screened using Turnitin to assess textual similarity with previously published articles, books, conference proceedings, online publications, and other available sources. The maximum acceptable similarity index is 20%. Authors are encouraged to check their manuscripts before submission to ensure compliance with this requirement.
3. Evaluation of Similarity Reports
The editorial team evaluates Turnitin similarity reports contextually, considering the nature, location, and sources of matching text. A similarity index of 20% or below does not automatically guarantee acceptance if plagiarism or inappropriate source attribution is identified. Conversely, legitimate similarities, such as properly cited quotations, standard terminology, and bibliographic references, may require contextual assessment. The overall originality and academic integrity of each manuscript remain essential considerations.
4. Editorial Decisions
Based on the similarity report and editorial assessment, the journal may take the following actions:
-
Similarity of 20% or below: The manuscript may proceed to the next stage of editorial evaluation, provided that no significant plagiarism or ethical violations are identified.
-
Similarity above 20%: The manuscript may be returned to the author for revision and resubmission or rejected, depending on the extent and nature of the overlap.
-
Substantial plagiarism or unattributed material: The manuscript may be rejected regardless of the overall similarity percentage.
5. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their manuscripts, providing appropriate citations, paraphrasing sources accurately, and obtaining permission for copyrighted material when necessary. Authors must not manipulate similarity reports or conceal unattributed use of other works. All submitted manuscripts must comply with the journal's academic integrity and publication ethics requirements.
6. Publication Ethics
JMPI follows recognized principles of publication ethics and may refer to the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when addressing suspected plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct. The journal also refers to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing. Cases are handled fairly and confidentially, with appropriate opportunities for authors to provide explanations.
7. Post-Publication Concerns
If plagiarism or other serious violations of publication ethics are identified after publication, JMPI may investigate the case and take appropriate action, including issuing a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, depending on the seriousness of the findings and the applicable editorial policy. Such actions are guided by recognized publication ethics practices, including resources provided by COPE.
Through this policy, JMPI aims to uphold originality, responsible citation practices, transparency, and trust in scholarly communication.
